Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what information the Drowzy mobile app and this website handle, why, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain and specific.
Overview
Drowzy (“Drowzy”, “we”, “us”) provides a mobile app that uses your phone’s camera to watch for signs of driver drowsiness and alert you with sound and vibration. This policy applies to the Drowzy app (the “App”) and to this website.
The key points: drowsiness detection runs on your device, and we don’t need to upload your camera footage to detect drowsiness. Some features, such as accounts, trip history sync, subscriptions and usage analytics, do involve sending information to online services, as described below.
Camera and on-device detection
To detect drowsiness, the App needs access to your phone’s front camera. You grant this permission through your device, and you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings, although the App can’t monitor for drowsiness without it.
- Camera frames are analysed on your device, in real time, to look for facial and eye cues associated with drowsiness.
- Camera images and video are not uploaded to our servers, and the App does not save them as photos or recordings.
- We do not use the camera for facial recognition or to identify who you are.
The App may record the outcome of monitoring, such as when a possible drowsiness event was detected, as part of your trip history (see below). This is a record of the event, not an image.
Information we collect
Account information
You can use parts of the App as a guest. If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password, which is stored in a protected form by our authentication provider. We don’t ask for your name or phone number to create an account.
Trip information
The App keeps a history of your driving sessions, such as session duration, detected drowsiness events and a calculated safety score. In guest mode this stays on your device. When you sign in, it is synced to our cloud database so it can be backed up and available across your devices.
Usage and diagnostic information
We use an analytics service to understand how the App is used, for example which screens and features are used, along with general device and app information. We use this to improve the App. We don’t use analytics to identify you by name, and analytics never include camera images.
Subscription and purchase information
If you start a free trial or subscribe, payment is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive information needed to confirm your subscription status, such as a purchase receipt or token. We do not receive or store your full card details.
Support and communications
If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. If you joined our iPhone waitlist, we hold the email address you provided and related waitlist details so we can tell you when the iPhone version is available.
How we use information
- To provide the App’s drowsiness detection, alerts and trip history.
- To create and secure your account and sync your data across devices.
- To manage free trials and subscriptions.
- To send service messages, such as trial or billing reminders. You can turn off notifications in your device settings.
- To respond to support requests and feedback.
- To understand usage, fix problems and improve the App, including its safety features.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of our users and others.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers and sharing
We rely on a small number of service providers that process information on our behalf to run Drowzy:
- Supabase, for account authentication and cloud database hosting.
- Google Firebase, for App usage analytics.
- Apple and Google, for app distribution, payments and subscription management, under their own privacy policies.
- An email delivery provider, to send transactional emails such as waitlist confirmations.
These providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
Storage, retention and security
- Account information and synced trip history are kept for as long as your account exists.
- Guest trip data stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
- When you delete your account, your account, trip history and safety scores are permanently erased from our servers. See how to delete your account.
- Analytics information is retained according to the settings of our analytics provider.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, such as encrypted connections and secure authentication, to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- Camera access: allow or revoke it at any time in your device settings.
- Guest use: use the App without creating an account.
- Notifications: manage them in your device settings.
- Account deletion: delete your account and associated data from within the App.
- Subscriptions: manage or cancel them in your Apple or Google account settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact us at support@drowzy.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Children
Drowzy is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
This website
This website is informational. It does not use analytics or advertising cookies, and it has no forms that collect personal information. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and keep the site secure. Links to app stores take you to Apple or Google, whose own privacy policies apply.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Drowzy changes. When we do, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll take reasonable steps to let you know.
